“You cannot wear white after Labor Day”
I have heard this expression so many times! it seems that For whatever the reason, once that day comes along on the calendar, it becomes socially unacceptable to wear the most basic color mankind has in his armoire. I must say that I never understood this rule and, therefore, never abided by it. It just doesn’t make sense to me: why would anyone not wear white after Labor Day? Coco Chanel famously wore white whenever she wanted, so why shouldn’t we? For those who are convinced that wearing white in the fall is blasphemous, first of all, get over it. White was all over the runway this year at fall 2013 shows for Giambattista Valli, Proenza Schouler, Celine, Salvatore Ferragamo and Derek Lam, amongst others. Personally I always wore my white jeans and whatever I felt like wearing in the winter(except white shoes) regardless of what the trend is. If worn correctly, white in cooler temperatures can really make a statement. Go ahead wear your white and don’t worry about what anyone has to say! Today is October 25th and we are way passed labor day, I am wearing white jeans a navy sweater and flats on this beautiful Fall day.
